Hello and welcome! My name is Emma Welham and I am a director, dramaturg and actor based in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba on Treaty 1 Territory.
I am currently the assistant director of the world premiere of Jessica B. Hill's The Dark Lady (a co-production between Shakespeare in the Ruins and Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan) and participating in The Canadian Guild of Stage Directors and Choreographers' Inaugural Assistant/Associate Program. Most recently I was the Associate Director of Hannah Moscovitch's Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre which received 4.5 stars from the Winnipeg Free Press. Up next I will be directing Mark Ravenhill's Pool, No Water at the 2023 Winnipeg Fringe. In my career I have been lucky to work with companies including the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Theatre by the River, Winnipeg Studio Theatre and Dry Cold Productions. I hold a BAH in Performance from the University of Winnipeg, and am an alumna of The Village Conservatory for Music Theatre. I have been mentored by Krista Jackson through Creative Manitoba's Youth Mentorship Program, by Sarah Garton Stanley through Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre's National Mentorship Program, and by Ashlie Corcoran through the Canadian Guild of Stage Directors and Choreographers' Mentee Program. As an artist, I am fuelled by a desire to learn, a joy in the rigour of the work and a genuine love of what I do. I am a firm believer in collaboration and striving for excellence while leading with kindness and heart. |
