Hello and welcome! My name is Emma Welham and I am an artist currently based in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba on Treaty 1 Territory.
Working primarily in direction, my work has been described as forthright, bold and high level. My goal is always to create a specific, finely honed production that places the question "what best serves this show?" at the forefront of every decision. What Have I Been Up To Recently? In 2024 I will be the assistant director of Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking at Prairie Theatre Exchange, directing Jez Butterworth's The River at the Winnipeg Fringe, and directing Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann for Manitoba Underground Opera. In 2023 I directed Pool (No Water) at the Winnipeg Fringe, and The Lightning Thief at Glenlawn Collegiate, was the associate director of Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, and was the assistant director of The Dark Lady (a world premier co-produced by Shakespeare in the Ruins and Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan), Little Shop of Horrors (a co-production between The Arts Club and the Citadel Theatre), and Sleuth (Vertigo Theatre). Where Have I Worked? In addition to my work as a director, I have also worn hats including dramaturg, performer and producer. My career has taken me across the country and I have worked for companies including The Arts Club, The Citadel Theatre, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Theatre Projects Manitoba, Dry Cold Productions, Shakespeare in the Ruins, Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, Vertigo Theatre, and Prairie Theatre Exchange. What Is My Training?
